Murphy signs new Fulham deal

Fulham captain Danny Murphy has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Craven Cottage until 2011. Murphy has been an integral member of the Fulham team since joining the club two years ago from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The former England international has scored 14 goals in 83 appearances and played a prominent role in the Cottagers qualifying for Europe last season. He revealed last month that he was close to finalising a new deal in West London and has now signed on to stay for the next two seasons. The 32-year-old had been linked with Birmingham City and Stoke City over the summer, but Fulham boss Roy Hodgson never considered selling his skipper. Murphy is, however, a doubt for the club's Europa League qualifier against Amkar Perm on Thursday after suffering a calf injury in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at home by Chelsea.
