Middlesbrough v Fulham preview

17 April 2009 11:37
Middlesbrough entertain Fulham in yet another crucial Premier League clash. With Boro entrenched in the relegation zone, every game from now until the end of the season will be crucial. Middlesbrough beat Hull City last weekend, their first league win in 2009, although their record at The Riverside is impressive in recent weeks. They have lost just one of their last nine games at home, whilst they are unbeaten in the last six. Fulham won their last two away games in the league and are in a rich vein of form, and know their league status is already secured. But the trip to Teesside has never been a favourite for The Cottagers as they have never won at The Riverside, indeed their last win in Middlesbrough was in 1984. A win for Boro could see them move out of the bottom three for the first time in nearly two months. Boro boss Gareth Southgate will consider whether to name an unchanged side for the match, having started with Tuncay Sanli in midfield against Hull. He may opt for a more conservative approach which could mean a recall for Julio Arca, Josh Walker or Mohamed Shawky, but Gary O'Neil is sidelined as he serves the final game of a two-match ban. Brad Jones will continue in goal despite the fact he dislocated a finger against Hull last week. Like Southgate, Fulham boss Roy Hodgson could also be ready to field an unchanged line-up following their success at Manchester City. The match will see the return to The Riverside of Boro legend Mark Schwarzer, who joined Fulham last summer. Possible starting XIs: Boro: Jones, McMahon, Wheater, Huth, Taylor, Bates, Aliadiere, Downing, Tuncay, Alves, King Fulham: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hangeland, Hughes, Konchesky, Davies, Etuhu, Murphy, Dempsey, Johnson, Zamora
