Magath named Fulham manager

Fulham have taken drastic action in their bid to beat relegation by appointing Felix Magath as first-team manager, leaving the future of Rene Meulensteen shrouded in mystery.

Former Manchester United coach Meulensteen was appointed head coach under Martin Jol, before taking control of first-team duties on December 1 following his fellow Dutchman's sacking.

No mention was made of Meulensteen in a surprise statement by Fulham on Friday evening, which announced the hiring of Magath as first-team manager on an 18-month contract.
