Liverpool and Arsenal fight it out over Dempsey

Fulham's highly rated American international Clint Dempsey looks certain to leave Fulham before the end of the current transfer window. The 29 year old was signed as a midfielder from New England Revolution for $4 million in 2007, but his talent for goals saw then Fulham manager, Lawrie Sanchez, convert him into a striker.

Dempsey has won Fulham's Player of the Year for the last two seasons and has been valued at around £7.5 million, however a bidding war between Arsenal and Liverpool could see this fee rise to near £10 million.
