Lewington happy to be out of running

Ray Lewington is not interested in taking over as Fulham manager and is happy for the club to appoint a fresh face to replace Roy Hodgson. The Cottagers hope to name their new boss by the start of next week, with Sven Goran Eriksson, Bob Bradley and Ottmar Hitzfeld thought to be the front-runners to replace Hodgson, who left for Anfield two weeks ago. Lewington had a four-year spell as manager of the club in the eighties and was also caretaker following Lawrie Sanchez's sacking in 2007. The 53-year-old marked the start of his second caretaker spell with an easy 5-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday night, but insists that he is not interested in taking on the job permanently. He said: "I'm not interested in the job, it's going to an outsider. Which is fair enough. I think it can be very dangerous to bring up coaches who are familiar with players. "So we're all accepting that an outsider's going to come in and we're just waiting to see who it is."
