Lack Of Draws Is Point Of Convern For Fulham

Fulham have had an awful season. Out of their 24 Premier League games, they have won 6 and lost 17, drawing only once.

It’s a record that shows Fulham’s inability to get regular points at Premier League level, and on performance alone so far this campaign, they deserve to go down.

For mid-table sides, draws are important in keeping the points ticking over when the team is not playing particularly well. They can eventually save a team, as Aston Villa demonstrated two years ago, when they drew 17 of their 38 league games. They won only 7, but the draws were enough to see them finish 16th, above QPR, Bolton and Blackburn, all of whom won more games than them.

Fulham’s inability to form a steady trickle of points sees them bottom of the table. They have yet to reach 20 points and, out of the 10 teams currently in the relegation struggle, they seem to be the least equipped to drag themselves out of it.

With consecutive games against Manchester United and Liverpool coming up, before a vital game against West Brom, the west London side are in real danger of getting cut adrift in the coming weeks, especially given that most of the teams around them have managed to scrape important points and performances together in recent games.

Head coach Rene Meulensteen has brought in football veterans Ray Wilkins and Alan Curbishley to help the team, but nothing the trio have done seems to have had any effect. Fulham remain ineffective at both ends of the pitch, and have lost four games in a row, including six-pointers against Sunderland and Swansea.

In what has been an unpredictable Premier League season, they could stop the rot in the next two games, but it’s hard to see that happening, and they will probably have to sweat on other team’s results if they are to stay up for what would be their 14th consecutive season in the top flight.

At the moment, though, it looks like 13 is going to be unlucky for the team from the Cottage.
