Hughes targets Fulham bow

Fulham defender Aaron Hughes is back in training and is hoping to make his Cottagers debut in the near future.

The 27-year-old summer recruit from Aston Villa suffered an ankle injury in the pre-season build-up and has been forced to watch the opening few games of the new campaign.

Hughes told the club's official website: "Thursday was my second day of training and it's quite early on, but I feel pretty comfortable and hopefully I'll progress well.

"I've never set a comeback date, it's been one day at a time. If all goes to plan I'd like to say I'll be fit for Wigan, but I don't want to tempt fate.

"It's been frustrating but I can't complain too much because I know there are guys that have been out for longer than me and I'm sure they're more frustrated than I am.

"I think the fact that I'd just joined a new club and was keen to get off to a good start and do well and then get injured, that's part of football and you have to deal with it."
