Hughes: No complacency at Fulham

As Fulham look to appoint their new manager, defender Aaron Hughes insists no-one at Craven Cottage can afford to get complacent.[LNB] It has been more than a fortnight since Roy Hodgson, who guided Fulham to the Europa League final last season, left for Liverpool.[LNB]Caretaker-boss Ray Lewington is likely to remain at the helm for Saturday's friendly at Bournemouth, with the squad set to jet out to Scandinavia on Monday.[LNB]By then, the Cottagers are expected to be in a position to formally announce their new boss.[LNB]Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson remains the leading candidate, although there may still be an issue over his salary, with Fulham owner Mohammed Al Fayed apparently setting a limit of £1million a year.[LNB]The Swede also revealed earlier this week that he is considering a lucrative offer to return as head coach of the Ivory Coast, whom he managed at the World Cup.[LNB]Martin Jol has also emerged as a potential replacement for Hodgson, although with the possibility of Ajax qualifying for the Champions League it is questionable whether or not the ex-Tottenham boss could be tempted back to the Barclays Premier League.[LNB]Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and United States manager Bob Bradley now seem unlikely to take up the post.[LNB]Former Bayern Munich manager Hitzfeld, who has won the Champions League twice, ruled himself out of the race while the United States Soccer Federation have outlined their intention for Bradley to extend his current contract as national team manager.[LNB]Whoever eventually takes over in the Craven Cottage dugout will certainly have a tough act to follow.[LNB]Yet any worries that the players may be complacent following last season's successes have been swiftly rebuffed by Hughes.[LNB]"We know what works for us and how to get results and we've got to keep working hard ahead of the new season," the Northern Ireland international told www.fulhamfc.com.[LNB]"We know what has brought us success over the last couple of years and what works for us - we work hard, but there is always room for improvement.[LNB]"Another good, solid league finish this season would be regarded as a successful campaign.[LNB]"I don't think because of last season, or the season before, that we will be getting ahead of ourselves."[LNB]Fulham have already signed defender Philippe Senderos from Arsenal, but goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer continues to be linked with a switch the other way.[LNB]Centre-back Brede Hangeland is another player said to have impressed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.[LNB]The Norwegian, however, takes all transfer rumours with a pinch of salt.[LNB]"There is always speculation about players moving clubs," he said.[LNB]"I would be lying if I didn't say I prefer it when people think I have done better than the opposite.[LNB]"But the more years I play, the more I learn to ignore speculation and keep my head down.[LNB]"I am confident I am good enough to play under another manager here at Fulham.[LNB]"The organisation at Fulham is very good - we have a good working unit, and hopefully if we get the right new manager, we will keep going as we have done."
