Hodgson delighted for Johnson
30 Oct 2008 - 09:04:50
Fulham striker Andrew Johnson finally got off the mark with both goals in a morale-boosting 2-0 victory at home to Wigan Athletic.
The 27-year-old £10.5million summer recruit from Everton had previously failed to find the net in six appearances for the Cottagers, but struck twice to send the Latics packing at Craven Cottage.
Boss Roy Hodgson said: "It was important for Andy tonight. All goalscorers need that first goal at their new club to get them kick-started.
"That's especially the case if you're a big-money signing, which Andy was by Fulham's standards. I'm delighted for him.
"But he didn't just score the goals, he constantly helped our midfield players.
"Andy has that composure in front of goal that his pace, technique and low centre of gravity give him.
"He took his two goals extremely well - they were typical Andy Johnson goals."
