Hodgson confident over AJ
08 Aug 2008 - 14:41:36
Fulham manager Roy Hodgson is confident that striker Andrew Johnson will prove to be a major success for the Cottagers, following his big-money move from Everton.
The 27-year-old England international could eventually cost Fulham around £13million, having completed a switch that was held up by concerns over his medical.
However, Hodgson told reporters: "We persisted so long because we were certain Andy was the player we wanted.
"All transfer dealings these days, particularly those involving large sums of money, do take time. But I never had any doubts the transfer would be completed.
"Any player that is at the age Andy is and has played as many games as Andy has is likely to have had some problems down the line.
"We wanted to get it right. There was a lot of speculation, but we reported early on we were trying to do a deal and maybe other clubs don't do that, so I think that's what it was about."
