    Hodgson 'sad' about Bullard

    20 Feb 2009 - 15:56:33

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has voiced his sadness at former Cottagers midfielder Jimmy Bullard's latest serious injury setback.

The 30-year-old has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage on his Tigers debut, following a £5million January exit from Craven Cottage.

Hodgson told Sky Sports News: "It is sad news, I must say.

"He wasn't really complaining so much about his knee during the month of January, it was his groin - because of the injury he picked up against Tottenham Hotspur that was affecting him.

"When he started training again, he then mentioned there was a slight tweak in his knee and he wasn't so comfortable with it.

"Basically he went to Hull and played and I can only presume it was something that happened in the West Ham game that has either exacerbated that situation that he felt, or has provoked a totally new injury.

"It is really, really sad for him. It is sad for him in the sense that he worked so hard to get back to full fitness after being out for more than a year.

"He had a good year with us really. 2008 was a good year for him on the football field. As I said before, we weren't happy to see him go, but we had to respect his decision.

"It is very sad that now he is going to face another further long spell on the touchlines. I can only wish him well."
