Hodgson still searching

Manager Roy Hodgson continues to be linked with a number of players as he bids to strengthen his squad before the end of the transfer window. The latest speculation surrounds the possible arrival of former Newcastle and Middlesbrough striker Mark Viduka on a free transfer. The 33-year-old Australia international is alleged to have arrived into London on Wednesday night for talks with Hodgson. Portsmouth, Fulham's opening-day opponents, had lined up Viduka in the last few weeks but that deal collapsed because of the club's financial worries. Fulham, according to reports, are ready to offer the striker a two-year deal. Viduka had an injury-ravaged campaign at Newcastle last season, making only 12 league appearances. In total, he scored seven goals in 38 matches during his two-year spell at St James' Park. Hodgson is keen to add new players to his squad to compensate for any injuries during the campaign. "I think the team is still strong and we're even getting stronger with the more work we do," Hodgson said. "Last year we were extremely lucky with injuries and I don't quite know if that will happen again. We're trying to improve and strengthen our squad all the time and hopefully we might be a bit stronger before the end of the transfer window."
