Hodgson hails Europe-bound Cottagers

Roy Hodgson described Fulham's best top-flight finish as one of the finest moments of his career. Despite losing their final game of the season to FA Cup finalists Everton, Hodgson's side clinched seventh place and qualification for next season's new Europa League. Tottenham's failure to beat Liverpool at Anfield enabled Fulham to make light of their 2-0 defeat by the Toffees and give Hodgson a moment to savour. The Fulham boss was given a standing ovation by fans before the game and even a goal in each half from Everton's Leon Osman could not take the shine off their achievement. "I said to the players after the game that I've had a long career and I've been very lucky," said Hodgson. "Quite a few honours have come my way but, as far as I'm concerned, the work these guys have done for me this year, not just the players, but all the staff around me, makes me really proud of this achievement. "When I came to Fulham we looked doomed and a year and a half later we are in seventh place and in Europe - and I do think that is an achievement."
