Hodgson fears he can't afford the squad for Fulham European assault

Roy Hogdson says his transfer budget will be limited this summer and admits qualification for Europe could push his small Fulham squad to the limit. The west London side are in contention to finish seventh in the Barclays Premier League, which will be good enough to qualify for the Europa League - the revamped UEFA Cup. However, Hodgson says his summer shopping won't be affected by the prospect of a European tour and he has no intention of building a swollen squad. 'We'll be restricted in the number of players we can bring in by the budget we're given and the amount of money we have to spend, but numbers per se don't guarantee you anything anyway,' he said. 'We're not the sort of club that could ever have a rotation policy in the same way as the top four teams. Our recruitment policy will be the same whether we make Europe or not. 'If do we make Europe it will put a strain on the squad as the size of the squad won't necessarily be geared to it.' Nonetheless, there will be some comings and goings and Hodgson is certainly looking to improve on what he has. 'I do now expect it to be easier to attract players here,' he said. 'Luckily we've made ourselves a slightly more attractive proposition for new players with the work we've done this season. 'We have the great advantage of being in the right part of England - people like to live in London, and in particular south west London.'
