Hodgson blasts Wembley pitch

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has criticised Wembley's playing surface and believes it will be difficult to sort out the problems with the pitch.[LNB] Players regularly lost their footing during the FA Cup semi-finals over the weekend and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was particularly damning in his assessment after Michael Dawson's costly slip against Portsmouth.[LNB]The state of the surface has also come under fire from former Millennium Stadium groundsman Dave Saltman, who has called it ''an embarassment on a global scale".[LNB]The pitch has been relaid 10 times since the stadium was opened in 2007 and Hodgson said: "It's sad but it does happen when you are constantly relaying pitches.[LNB]"I experienced it at Inter when the pitch had to be relaid two or three times a year.[LNB]"I'm afraid laying pitches is always a hazardous business because you are never sure how that grass is going to bed in.[LNB]"I'm disappointed for the four teams playing in the semi-finals that they didn't get a good pitch to play on but it is one of those things I suppose and hopefully the FA will put it right."
