Rangers manager Walter Smith has all but given up hope of being able to sign Fulham's out-of-favour midfielder Steven Davis.
Smith had been hoping to have agreed a deal for the 23-year-old Northern Ireland international, who impressed while on loan at Ibrox during the second half of last season.
However, the Gers have yet to match the asking price set by the Cottagers for their player and Smith accepts that the transfer could have to be put on ice.
He said: "We haven't been able to reach agreement with the club so it would look as though that is now finished with.
"I think the lad would like to come here and play and there will be a bit of frustration from both parties that it hasn't happened.
"But there are still five weeks of the transfer window, so we will just have to wait and see."
Davis only joined Fulham a year ago from Aston Villa, but managed just 25 appearances during his first season at Craven Cottage.
