Gera plays down injury fears

Midfielder Zoltan Gera has reassured Fulham fans that he does not face a spell on the sidelines as feared. The Hungarian winger was substituted in the final minute of extra-time as Fulham were defeated by Manchester City in the Carling Cup third round in midweek. Gera, who opened the scoring with a stunning strike in the 2-1 defeat, was then subject of speculation as a number of articles in the English press suggested he was confined to the treatment table. The 30-year-old has quashed such claims, however, revealing the withdrawal was only a precaution. "I want to calm everyone down. I did not get injured in our game against Manchester City unlike it was written in many articles in England," said Gera. "I was substituted at the end of the game but it looked worse than the reality. "At the last minute of the cup-tie the ball hit my ankle and it may have touched a nerve because my foot was asleep and I couldn't go back to the pitch. "That's why I was substituted. A couple of hours after the game I didn't feel pain, I'm absolutely alright now." Gera put in an impressive performance despite the defeat, operating on the left flank when more familiar with the right. The former West Brom man was allowed to cut into the centre from out wide and feels he was more effective as a result and hopes the performance can be a springboard for him to break back into the first team. "This is true that I was playing on the left side, but this time I enjoyed this role because our manager allowed me to move to the centre and I could be more dangerous," he added. "I had to run more in order to get back to the left side but I did it happily because I could have more chance in building up the attacks of my team creatively. "I hope that with the help of my latest performance I'll have the chance to play in the Premier League, but of course this will be decided by our manager."
