Fulham stand firm over Schwarzer

Arsenal have failed with a second bid of around £2million for veteran Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, according to reports.[LNB] The Gunners saw an offer knocked back by the Cottagers in May and have received short shrift once again in their latest approach.[LNB]It is believed that the terms offered by Arsenal were the same as those put on the table earlier in the summer, with a £2million bid believed to have been put forward.[LNB]Fulham remain reluctant to do business at that price, despite Schwarzer making it clear that he wants to move on.[LNB]The Australia international has admitted that the opportunity to move to Emirates Stadium would be too good to turn down and recently put in a transfer request.[LNB]The Cottagers accept that the 37-year-old wants to further his career at a club competing in the Champions League, but insist they will not be held to ransom.[LNB]Mark Hughes will not part with his first-choice shot-stopper unless his terms are met, and Arsenal have been made well aware of that.[LNB]It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will return with a third offer for Schwarzer, but Arsene Wenger is known to be in the market for a reliable last line of defence.[LNB]The summer transfer window is not due to close until 6pm on August 31, so there is still plenty of time for an agreement to be reached.
