The former Manchester United favourite has been told he can leave Real in a cut-price deal as the Spaniards complete the signing of AC Milan forward Kaka. Van Nistelrooy has been missing with a knee injury since November but is expected to be ready for the new season. Tottenham are keen to shake up their attack and have identified the 32-year-old as the ideal player and could offer a tempting escape for Van Nistelrooy, 32, as they attempt to offload Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko. But Fulham are also interested in signing van Nistelrooy, who has spent three years in Spain after five successful seasons at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Tottenham's Mexican forward Giovani dos Santos could be set for a return to Spain, with Espanyol interested. A report in the Spanish newspaper Sport has claimed that Espanyol sporting director Ramon Planes has made known his interest to Tottenham for two weeks. Espanyol are eager to loan Dos Santos for a season with an option to sign him after that. The player's father Zizinho is keen for his son to return to Spain to resurrect his faltering career. Dos Santos made just 10 appearances for Spurs, scoring one goal in the Uefa Cup against Shakhtar Donetsk. An ankle injury hampered his time at the Premier League club and he found himself out of favour under Harry Redknapp. The 20-year-old forward spent the final months of the season on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship, where he scored four goals in eight games.
