Fulham: January Transfers That Could Happen

22 October 2012 09:12

With the January Transfer window looming – certain rumours have been thrown around since the beginning of the 12/13 season. Here I will take a look at the potential 'comings and goings' that will affect The Barclays Premier League.

With only £58,000,000 spent in The British Transfer Market last January – it is fair to say that compared to the summer window, top flight managers are much more reluctant to spend. That said – with such success stories like Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic people may wonder why managers do not spend? Of course, the likes of big spenders Manchester City and Chelsea are in the latter stages of assembling their squads to challenge domestically and on the continent.

In this article – I will look at transfer rumours surrounding teams in The Barclays Premier League. The potential comings and goings and reasons behind the move.

Fulham are reportedly ready to make a £2 million bid for the Standard Liege stopper Sinan Bolat when the transfer window re-opens this January. The Turkish keeper has been out since June after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury but is near to compelling his rehabilitation. The London club are looking to bring in a new young keeper to deputise for Schwarzer who is now in his 40's.

Yoan Gouffran

Bordeaux midfielder Yoan Gouffran is a reported January transfer target for Fulham. The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer so will be available for a cut price as the French club will look to get at least ₤3 million for the plater during the New Year transfer window instead of losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

Raul Garcia

Jol is said to be looking to bring in Atletico Madrid's tough tackling midfielder Raul Garcia after the Fulham manager saw his own midfield take a battering during the summer with Dembele, Dempsey, Murphy and Etuhu all leaving Craven Cottage. Fulham were reportedly interested in signing the player during the summer but were scared off by Atletico's ₤7 million price tag and then failed to agree on a loan deal. But with injuries mounting for Jol he will be looking to revive a deal and try to bring in the player this January.

Chris David

After missing out on the FC Twente strikers signature during the summer Fulham are set to get their man in January. A deal was in place during the summer to bring the youngster to London for a small fee but time ran out on the deal during deadline day. David has reportedly already undertaken a medical at Craven Cottage in preparation for the New Year switch.

Andrey Arshavin

Fulham are reportedly favourites to sign Arsenal winger Andrey Arshavin in January for free. The Russian international cost Arsenal ₤15 million but could be allowed to leave on a free as the club look to reduce their wage bill, with Arshavin one of their top earners. The player reportedly turned down a move to Zenit St Petersburg because he wanted to stay in London.

Brede Hangeland

The central defender is a key part to Fulham's defence but with his contract set to expire next year and contract talks making no real progress speculation has been mounting that the player could be heading for the exit at Craven Cottage. The platers agent said in August that an extension to his current contract looks unlikely and with Arsenal reportedly keeping tabs on the situation things are not looking good for Jol in respects to keeping his captain at the club.

Pajtim Kasami

Reports from Switzerland suggest that the youngster could be on his way out of Fulham in January. The former Palermo plater has failed to establish himself in the first team since his arrival in 2011. The player is thought to be growing frustrated at the London club after making just three league starts last season and managing only 24 minutes of action in the League this season.
