Fulham awarded place in Europa League

Share[LNB]Fulham will play in the Europa League next season via the Premier League's Fair Play League.[LNB]Mark Hughes' side had just one player sent off in league matches all season - that happened in the very last game leading to suggestions that relegated Blackpool could pip them to the spot.[LNB]Chelsea finished top of the Fair Play League but had already qualified for the Champions League and Fulham were in second spot.[LNB] Memories are made of this: Zoltan Gera celebrates after scoring against Hamburg last year and helping Fulham into the Europa league final[LNB]The Premier League said in a statement: 'Fulham FC has finished the season as the highest placed clubin the 2010/11 Fair Play League that has not already qualified for UEFAcompetitions via the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League.[LNB]'The club will take the additional European place awarded to England and compete in next season's UEFA Europa League.'[LNB]England received an additional EuropaLeague place for next season after finishing second in UEFA's national fair-play table based on results from all UEFA club and international matches played over the season.[LNB] Likely to be missing: Clint Dempsey and Carlos Salcido will be on international duty[LNB]The news will mean an early summer start for the Cottagers, with the first match due to be played on June 30. [LNB]At at least two players will be struggling to make that, with Clint Dempsey and Carlos Salcido due to be involved with the United States and Mexico respectively at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in California.[LNB]It is competition Fulham they will have fond memories of however.
