Ful of style

Arsenal 0-0 Fulham Fulham's slick passing in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal reminded Phil Thompson of the Gunners' at their flowing best, no less. Thompson was full of praise for the visitors' fluid play at Emirates Stadium even though they struggled to create clear opportunities after Andrew Johnson's early shot wide. The Gunners had plenty of sights of goal - with Mark Schwarzer twice denying Robin van Persie - but once again dropped crucial points and were booed off at the final whistle. Reflecting on Arsenal's display, Thompson told Soccer Saturday: "They had quite a few chances, most of them falling to Van Persie. "He had a header in the first half and he should have done better with it but he put it straight at Schwarzer, who tipped it over. He hit the post with a header as well and Abou Diaby had one off the line. "But don't get me wrong," Thompson added. "This wasn't just all about Arsenal; I was so impressed with Fulham. They passed it as well as Arsenal at times. "They didn't have the clear-cut chances that Arsenal had but I was more than impressed. Roy Hodgson has got them playing. They weren't launching it but building up; four-four-two out-and-out. "I think maybe that if Arsenal had gone like that and had two up front they might have had a better chance of winning it. They had five trying to win it in midfield but Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu were absolutely outstanding." Thompson has been taking flak from fellow Soccer Saturday pundit Paul Merson about Liverpool's form but he believes the former Gunner should be more worried about his old club. He said: "Merse is taking pot-shots at me about my team maybe finishing outside of the top-four but I'm wondering if Arsenal are going to finish sixth!"
