EUROPA LEAGUE LIVE: Roma v Fulham - all the action as it happens

05 November 2009 19:32
Fulham take on Claudio Ranieri's Roma in the Europa League Group E clash at the Stadio Olimpico seeking revenge after the Italian's late equaliser denied Roy Hodgson's men all three points at Craven Cottage a fortnight ago. Sportsmail has all the action from 6pm. [LNB] ROMA V FULHAM (6PM)  7.23: Ranieri makes his final roll of the dice - off comes the very effectual Guberti, replaced by Menez. You'll remember the Frenchman from the last match - he's the chap that missed the penalty. [LNB]7.18: Baptista and Taddei interchange passes on the edge of the area but Hangeland was there to break up a dangerous-looking attack. [LNB]7.15: Dempsey's playing the lone role up front now and he looks a little lost. To be fair to him he doesn't normally play that role - it would be much better suited to Zamora. [LNB]7.12: Roma's tails are definitely up now. The passes are pinging around midfield and a couple of shots have been fired in at Schwarzer - two needed pawing over the bar. [LNB]7.06: Replays show that his challenge from behind was worth a yellow card but red was harsh -to say the least. Backs to the wall stuff now for the visitors methinks. [LNB]7.04: RED CARD! Nevland walks after an innocuous-looking challenge on De Rossi. That's two cards in two matches for Fulham against this side.[LNB]7.01: The second half's underway. [LNB]7.00: Two changes for Roma - The 'keeper Doni has been replaced by Sergio and Cicinho is off for Taddei. Fulham swap Nevland for the goalscorer Kamara. [LNB]6.46: Fulham will be over the moon after the first half went almost perfectly. They have taken the lead and the hosts look decidedly uninterested. Is a famous victory on the cards? You better believe it![LNB]6.45: HALF TIME. The ref blows his whistle - that means the end of the first 45 minutes, I do believe. [LNB]6.43: A fine chance for Dempsey goes just past the upright - he was forced wide to the right of the box and squeezed out an effort that rolled just wide. [LNB]6.42: Huge penalty shout. From the corner Mexes shoots and that looks very much like it hit Pantsil's arm.  In his defence, It came at him at a rate of knots. Still, I've seen them given.[LNB]6.41: A fine break from Okaka Chuka has Fulham on the back foot but Konchesky does well to force him out. Corner. [LNB]6.40: Okaka Chuka goes in the book now after a clumsy challenge on Greening. [LNB] Heading wide: Roma's best opportunity of the half on it's way wide of the upright[LNB]6.36: Another guilt-edged chance for the visitors. Kamara headed Konchesky's delightful cross well wide, unmarked at the back post.[LNB]6.32: Greening receives the second caution of the evening - a 50/50 was harshly adjudged against the Fulham midfielder. He'll miss the next Europa League match with CSKA Sofia in December.[LNB]6.30: Dempsey wastes a fine chance to double the vistors lead. Gera broke down the left and fed the American in acres of space but he wanted too many touches and Cassetti nicked the ball away.[LNB]6.26: Schwarzer dallies with danger a little. Coming to claim a routine catch he plamed sidewayd but the ball ran away from him and that almost allowed Guberti to pounce.[LNB]6.23: Roma should be level! Cicinho delivered a peach right to the penalty spot, Mexes rose to meet it but his header sailed wide of the post. [LNB]6.20: Kamara was getting ready to come off just before the penalty was awarded  - Nevland has retaken his place on the bench.[LNB]6.19: GOAL! Kamara sends Doni the wrong way to give Fulham the lead. [LNB]6.18: PENALTY! Roma's hero from the last match, Andreolli, chops down Dempsey - blatant penalty![LNB] Ear we go! Kamara celebrates his successful penalty strike[LNB]6.14: Cicinho 'wins' a freekick after Riise checked him 10-yards outside the box. A little soft that decision. But the resulting delivery amounts to nought.[LNB]6.10: Fulham's Riise has a pop from just inside the box - no drama there but he strikes the ball exactly like his older brother John. OK, they are related but I mean exactly. [LNB]6.07: A tentative start from both sides - De Rossi looks lively for the hosts and Chuka should have done better from an in-swinging corner but that's it for the opening passages. [LNB]6.03: An early look-in for Fulham after Kamara and Dempsey combined well on the edge of the box but Riise couldn't keep the ball under control and it rolled out. Goal kick.[LNB]6.01: We're underway.[LNB]6.00: A strange atmosphere in the ground. Did you catch any of the Women's European Women's Championships recently? You'll know what I mean if you did. [LNB] Backing off: Fulham's Riise holds off Cassetti at the Stadio Olimpico[LNB]5.55: Right, the teams are out and that means we'll have some footer for you in a moment. Super.[LNB]5.50: 2,000 fans have made the journey from west London and it looks like they're the majority in the stadium - there are vast swathes of empty seats in the Stadio Olimpico, the locals are showing their dissatisfaction at the way things are going for the club by declining to put their bums on the seats.[LNB]5.40: The match two weeks ago proved that Fulham have nothing to fear tonight. Roma are having an incredibly indifferent season, lying in 14th place, with just one win in the last six - this is a good time to play the Romans.[LNB]5.35: Right on cue ... here are the tonight's teams. [LNB]Roma: Doni, Cassetti, Mexes, Andreolli, Riise, Cicinho, Pizarro, De Rossi, Guberti, Okaka Chuka, Julio Baptista. Subs: Bertagnoli, Taddei, Motta, Perrotta, Cerci, Brighi, Menez.Fulham: Schwarzer, Pantsil, Hughes, Hangeland, Konchesky, Riise, Etuhu, Greening, Gera, Kamara, Dempsey. Subs: Stockdale, Baird, Nevland, Zamora, Smalling, Davies, Anderson.[LNB]No surprises there, then as Danny Murphy (knee), Damien Duff (Achilles) and Andrew Johnson (shoulder) all miss out. [LNB]5.30pm: Good evening and welcome to Sportsmail's coverage of Roma versus Fulham from the Stadio Olimpico.[LNB]It was heartache last time round for Roy Hodgson's men as a late, late strike from Marco Andreolli snatched a draw and a point from 10-man Fulham.[LNB]The stalemate a fortnight ago must have felt like defeat after coming so close to an historic win over the Italian giants, still, there is the opportunity for redemption this evening and Fulham arrive buoyed after their Premier League victory over Liverpool five days ago. [LNB]You'll get all the team news as soon as I have it and the action starts at 6pm.[LNB]Magic Marco: Fulham's despair is Roma's delight as Andreolli snatches a draw at Craven Cottage two weeks ago[LNB] Roma v Fulham: When in Rome, do as Roy Hodgson's teams do...LEO'S LONDON: Hodgson's a fine fit for Fulham - don't stop now.FULHAM FC
