Duff set for short lay-off
01 Nov 2009 - 17:39:58
Damien Duff should have recovered from an Achilles strain in time to feature in the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off against France later this month, according to Fulham boss Roy Hodgson.
The former Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Newcastle United star had to be substituted during the Cottagers' 3-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday after picking up the problem and looks set to be sidelined for a fortnight.
"It's very hard stopping Damien playing for the Republic of Ireland. You'd have to lock him in a cage," said Hodgson.
"It's an injury he's been struggling with for a while. It stems from his Achilles, although it's a little bit more complicated than that.
"There is no way I would even consider him for this week's Europa League game against AS Roma. I'll ask the medical staff to take as long as they need to try to get him back into shape as quickly as they can.
"And if he's fit for next Sunday then there's no reason why he shouldn't play for the Republic."
