Duff taking Europe seriously

Damien Duff insists Fulham will not be taking their foot of the gas in the Europa League this season. The competition has not always been taken seriously by Premier League sides wary of building up an imposing fixture backlog. Tottenham and Aston Villa both took the opportunity to blood youngsters and experiment with those on the fringes of their first-team during last season's Uefa Cup. Fulham, though, believe they have a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. Irish winger Duff certainly feels that is the case and claims everyone connected with the Cottagers is hoping to be involved in Thursday's group stage opener against CSKA Sofia. "We're not planning on letting Europe become a major negative factor," he said. "Obviously the travelling can be hard at times but the group we've been drawn in gives us some nice games, which will give the whole place a lift. "Hopefully we can carry that into our league programme. I think it's exciting and when you're excited you're not thinking about burning out." Duff did pick up a slight knock to his knee during Sunday's 2-1 victory over Everton, in which he scored the winner, but is adamant he will be ready for continental action in midweek. "I was a bit nervous when it jarred but I don't think it's a major problem," he said.
