Davies quits internationals

Fulham midfielder Simon Davies has retired from international football with Wales. The Football Association of Wales announced tonight the 30-year-old had called time on his 58-cap career after withdrawing from this week's friendly against Luxembourg. The news is a blow for manager John Toshack ahead of the start of Euro 2012 qualifying next month. Wales begin their European qualification campaign in Montenegro next month and Toshack spoke only on Friday of the importance of senior players such as Davies, Craig Bellamy and James Collins to his plans. A statement from the FAW read: "During the last 18 months, Davies has been troubled with a foot injury and he has decided that in order to prolong his career, he will end his international commitments. "The FAW would like to take the opportunity of thanking Simon for his service and wishes him well for the forthcoming season with Fulham."
