Preview: Fulham v Portsmouth
01 Feb 2010 - 12:30:34
Fulham entertain Premier League strugglers Portsmouth at Craven Cottage on Wednesday evening looking to further add to Avram Grant's woes.
The south coast outfit remain at the foot of the table and they are a huge six points away from pulling themselves out of the relegation places.
They suffered a 2-0 reversal at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday, but they will be looking for a positive result against Fulham this time around.
Pompey have collected just one point from their last possible 12 and they have won just once on their travels this term.
Despite this, they will take some hope as they prepare to travel to the capital with Roy Hodgson's Fulham going through a miserable run of form that has seen them drop to 11th place in the Premier League table.
Their last success was the fantastic 3-0 victory over champions Manchester United on December 19 and since then they have drawn with Tottenham Hotspur, before losing the previous five outings to Chelsea, Stoke City, Blackburn, Spurs and Aston Villa at the weekend.
Fulham's home form is keeping them within touching distance of landing a top-half placing and they will be striving to grab maximum points on their own patch.
Andrew Johnson (knee) and Paul Konchesky (ankle) remain on the sidelines and long-term injury victim Clint Dempsey (cruciate ligament) is expected to be out until April.
John Pantsil (knee) is continuing his rehabilitation in the treatment room while striker Diomansy Kamara has joined Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
The visitors will be without Papa Bouba Diop (hamstring) and Michael Brown (back).
They will be boosted with their returning Africa Cup of Nations players with the competition now at an end.
Hassan Yebda, Nadir Belhadj (both Algeria) Nwankwo Kanu (Nigeria) and Aruna Dindane (Ivory Coast) may well feature in the crucial clash.
