Burnley 1 Fulham 1: It's passion game as Zamora hits back at the boo boys

13 December 2009 09:35
Wade Elliott fired his second goal of the season to salvage Burnley a potentially priceless point at Turf Moor and deny Bobby Zamora another week in the headlines. [LNB]Fulham striker Zamora - at the centre of an alleged row with his own club's fans - looked to have hit his second consecutive winner with a cool 50th-minute finish. [LNB] On the mark: Fulham's Bobby Zamora (right) celebrates the opening goal [LNB]But Elliott had other ideas and his superb volley after Stephen Jordan's deep cross was deflected into his path ensured Owen Coyle's men maintained their fine home form. [LNB]For Coyle the importance of the point will not be under-stated after two big away defeats, while Fulham boss Roy Hodgson will wonder how his side were not out of sight by half-time. [LNB]Seeking their first league win at Turf Moor since 1951, the visitors seemed intent on making up for lost time and had two golden chances inside the first two minutes. [LNB]First Erik Nevland exposed the home defence by sending through Damien Duff who spotted goalkeeper Brian Jensen off his line but fluffed his attempted lob. [LNB]Less than a minute later Nevland found himself with a chance of his own when Clint Dempsey played a neat ball back to the Norwegian in the box but his low shot struck Jensen's legs. [LNB]Wade in: Burnley's Steven Fletcher runs to congratulate Wade Elliott (left)[LNB]Burnley had their first chance in the eighth minute when Robbie Blake's long-range effort deflected into the arms of Mark Schwarzer. [LNB]Duff came close again in the 10th minute, lashing a low left-foot shot which was parried by Jensen, as the visitors continued to carve open the Burnley defence with alarming ease. [LNB]Chris Eagles hit a low shot into Schwarzer's arms while at the other end Dempsey was not far off with an audacious long drive and Aaron Hughes was close with a header. [LNB]A fine ball by Zamora sent Duff through on the right in the 35th minute but there was no-one in the box to meet the Irishman's final ball. [LNB]The home side made a more encouraging start to the second half, Andre Bikey's ball setting up Elliott who was pushed right before trickling a poor shot across goal in the 50th minute. [LNB]Seconds later Fulham grabbed the lead when Chris Baird punted a long-free kick up-field and Zamora shrugged off Caldwell before placing the opener past Jensen.[LNB] Fulham could have gone further ahead when Dempsey connected well with a Duff corner only to see his header booted off the line by an alert Tyrone Mears. [LNB]But Burnley responded by levelling 10 minutes later when Jordan's cross was headed back by defender Brede Hangeland and fell to Elliott, who volleyed home from eight yards. [LNB] Get a grip: Damien Duff (left) tackles Burnley's Fernando Guerrero[LNB]Handed a new lease of life, Burnley continued to have chances with substitute David Nugent firing straight at Schwarzer from a narrow angle. [LNB]Bikey also brought a save out of the goalkeeper with a low effort but the final minutes ticked by without clear chances and both sides were left frustrated not to seal the points.
