Bullard close to return

Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard, who has not played for 14 months, could return to the Cottagers first team before Christmas.

The 29-year-old former Wigan Athletic star sustained knee ligament damage in last season's 2-1 win at Newcastle United, only his fourth game for the club.

Fulham physio Jason Palmer is pleased with Bullard's progress, saying: "Jimmy's begun doing some work on the training pitch with the under-18s.

"He'll progress over the next few weeks to reserve training sessions before moving on to full training with the first team.

"Depending on how he progresses and responds, the time frame we're looking at is between four to eight weeks."

Bullard made more than 150 appearances for Wigan before moving to Craven Cottage in the summer of 2006.
