Carlos Bocanegra has left Fulham after agreeing to join French top-flight side Rennes on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old USA international was told at the end of the last campaign that he would not be offered a new contract by the Cottagers.
Bocanegra, who made over 110 appearances during four seasons at Craven Cottage, has agreed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
He was used sparingly following Roy Hodgson's arrival as manager at the London club and started just four Premier League games during the second half of the last campaign.
"I was in a hurry to join Rennes," said the former Chicago Fire defender.
"After five years with Fulham, I wanted to play in another European league other than England.
"I appreciate the French championship. It's a very high level."
