Bocanegra says sorry to Delaney

Thursday Sep 29 2005 14:23

Fulham's American defender Carlos Bocanegra has publicly apologised for the tackle on Aston Villa defender Mark Delaney that saw him red-carded in the 2-1 home defeat.

Bocanegra was sent off 15 minutes from time at Loftus Road for his two-footed challenge, but he has moved quickly to make his peace with Villa, whose boss David O'Leary was furious after the incident.

"I would like to say to Mark in public that I am sorry," Bocanegra said.

"There was no intent whatsoever, I was going for the ball. I just hope Mark will heal quickly.

"I spoke to him on the team bus after the game and he was feeling a little better.

"His leg was wrapped up but they think he is going to be all right and I hope it works out for him."
