Fulham have beaten off competition from Sunderland to clinch the £3million signing of Northern Ireland defender Chris Baird from Southampton.
The 25-year-old, who can play at right-back of centre-half, has agreed a four-year contract at Craven Cottage, having been reported to be close to agreeing a switch to Sunderland last week.
Manager Lawrie Sanchez told the club's official website: "I'm delighted that Chris has chosen to join Fulham despite interest shown by other clubs.
"I am well aware of Chris' attributes as a player from my time with Northern Ireland and his qualities and versatility will be a major asset for the club next season.
"Winning the Southampton Player of the Season award last year is testament to his continued progress and development, which I have seen first-hand at international level."
Baird had been with the Saints for five years, having been loaned out to Walsall and Watford during his time at St Mary's.
He has won 25 international caps to date, having made his debut in a 2-0 friendly defeat by Italy in June 2003.
