Bobby Zamora missed training on Tuesday evenign as Fulham sweated over the fitness of their star striker for Wednesday's Europa League final against Atletico Madrid.

Zamora is a doubt for the biggest match in the club's 131-year history with the Achilles injury that required a pain-killing injection two weeks ago.

Fulham's top scorer with 19 goals trained on Monday but failed to join his team-mates for the eve-of-match run-out at the Hamburg Arena.

Other than Zamora the whole squad participated, including in-form winger Damien Duff, who has been battling with a leg injury.

Earlier, manager Roy Hodgson expressed his hope that Zamora and Duff would be available to face Atletico but now faces an anxious wait on the former.

"Both players trained on Monday and that was very positive," said the Fulham boss.

"I've been given no indication that they're suffering from a reaction so my hope is that they'll be available."

Hodgson has his heart set on emulating Sir Bobby Robson by becoming the first English manager to lift a European trophy for 13 years.

Fulham hope to defy the odds one last time when they meet favourites Atletico.

The last time an Englishman tasted success while guiding a club in European competition was in 1997 when Robson led Barcelona to glory in the Cup Winners Cup.

Hodgson steered Inter Milan to the UEFA Cup final in the same year while Steve McClaren is the nation's only manager to reach the same stage since with Middlesbrough in 2006.

Hodgson, the newly-crowned League Managers' Association manager of the year, hopes he can follow in the steps of Robson, who passed away last year.

"To follow a manager like Bobby Robson would be fantastic because as you know, we were friends for many years," he said.

"He was a great man, a great manager and it would be very nice to think I could follow him."

Atletico stiker Diego Forlan feels firing the goals that lead Atletico to Europa League glory would provide greater satisfaction than knocking out Liverpool.

The former Manchester United striker retains a soft spot for Old Trafford and was delighted to hit the target in each leg of the semi-final against Liverpool.

But Forlan insists making a telling impact at the Hamburg Arena will surpass his heroics against the Reds.

"Scoring goals is always very nice. To score at Liverpool was nice because I'm a United fan," said the Uruguay marksman.

"But if I score against Fulham it will mean even more. And I will be going all out to try to score and win the cup.

"I'm an attacker and I will try to score but the important thing to play well.

"We intend to win and become the champions. I've imagined winning the cup and I have pictures in my mind."

Atletico, who won the UEFA Cup in 1962, start as clear favourites but Forlan insists Fulham will not be taken lightly.

"It will be a tough game because we have quite an opponent. I like football and I watch a lot of English football," he said.

"Fulham are excellent athletes and good players. They have beaten great teams and won difficult matches so it will be a tough game.

"The people who like Fulham like to watch good football. They are doing really well.

"The Fulham team play very good football. They like to play the ball. They are different from most other teams.
