AJ set for Cottagers debut
13 Sep 2008 - 09:43:12
Former Everton striker Andrew Johnson is in line to make his Fulham debut against Bolton Wanderers.
The 27-year-old £10.5million recruit has not played this season because of a thigh problem but Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has been pleased with the forward's sharpness in training.
"Andy Johnson is fit for Saturday," he confirmed. "I haven't selected the team yet but all being well he'll be taking part.
"Andy's looked very sharp in training and he's extremely excited about making his debut for Fulham and playing again after what's been quite a long absence.
"I'm confident that (Bobby) Zamora and Johnson will prove to be a potent and very effective strikeforce for us.
"They're both good players and one hopes that two good players will find their individual form and form a good partnership. That's something we'll be working on daily in training.
"I must of course also say that I've been very pleased with Seol Ki-Hyeon and Erik Nevland so the competition for places remains high.
"We've bought Zamora and Johnson so it's understandable that people are saying 'this is the partnership' but I'd like to make it clear that their places are by no means given in the team.
"We do have Seol in particularly good form. I thought his game against the Arsenal was particularly good and he scored against Hull and Erik, who maintains the standard he's had since he came here. So we're quite blessed."
