France striker Bafetimbi Gomis has committed his long-term future to St Etienne by signing a new four-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
The 22-year-old, who is part of his country's Euro 2008 squad, had been linked with a move to Newcastle United, but is happy to have pledged his future to Les Verts.
He told the club's official website: "I am very happy to remain at St Etienne and to extend my adventure with my formative club.
"I hope to be able to claim a place in the Champions League with Les Verts.
"My priority was always to remain at St Etienne and it was important for me to sort out my personal position before the start of Euro 2008."
Coach Laurent Roussey added: "We are all very happy. Bafe is an important element of our team.
"The fact that he remains with us shows that St Etienne have ambition."
