Euro 2016 preparations on track - Platini

Published: 25 Nov 2011 - 12:16:41

UEFA president Michel Platini said on Friday that France's preparations for hosting the 2016 European Championship were on track, after a meeting with French prime minister Francois Fillon.

"It was a courtesy visit to say that things are going well," Platini told AFP after a 40-minute meeting with the prime minister at a hotel in Paris.

"Everything's fine. We have good contacts with all the organs of state and things are progressing well. There are no worries and even if there was a problem, we'd call each other."

Euro 2016 will take place in 11 stadiums spread across 10 French cities.

"(Fillon) was happy to have someone in his office saying that everything was going well," joked Platini, the former captain of the France national team.

"It must make a nice change."
