08 June 2012 10:26
Giroud spent six years as an academy player in Grenoble before signing a professional contract at the age of 19.

During the 2005-06 season Giroud was promoted to the reserves, where he immediately showed his potential netting 15 goals in as many games.

He was called up to the first team during the same season in March making his debut on the 24th. Giroud became a regular part of the first team during the 2006-07 campaign and managed 23 league appearances scoring twice. The following season he was loaned to French side Istres where he netted 14 goals in 33 league appearances.

Giroud returned to Grenoble but was deemed surplus to requirements and moved to second division side Tours. He enjoyed two impressive seasons with Tours scoring 30 league goals in 61 appearances with 9 assists. Giroud completed a move to Montpellier and scored 12 league goals in his first season.

This season was huge for Giroud as he finished the season with 21 goals and 9 assists making him the leagues top scorer. This also secured Montpellier the league title for the first time in the clubs history. Olivier Giroud has only recently been called up to the national squad but with only three strikers in the 23 man squad this could be a huge tournament for the 25 year old.
