Controlled explosion carried out near France team hotel ahead of Euro 2016 final

Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion close to the France football team's hotel just hours before the European Championship final in Paris.

It is reported that French police became concerned over an unattended bag and crowds of supporters who were gathered outside the hotel hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes were pushed back so that the package could be destroyed safely.

It is not the first time French police have acted decisively during the tournament with a similar incident occurring last week ahead of France's quarter-final tie against Iceland at the Stade de France, where Sunday night's final between Les Bleus and Portugal is set to take place.

Security at Euro 2016 has been high following the Paris terror attacks last November when a series of coordinated attacks in the city, including one near the Stade de France where France were playing Germany in a friendly, resulted in 130 deaths.
