Warriors' challenge fades

Stenhousemuir missed out on the Scottish Second Division play-offs after they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat to Forfar.

The visitors had relegation worries going into the game, but took the lead after four minutes when Warriors defender Ross McMillan stabbed the ball into his own net.

Grant Anderson latched on to Eric Paton's assist before slotting the ball past Greg Paterson in the Forfar goal after 15 minutes to put the hosts' play-off ambitions back on track.

Seven minutes later, Martyn Fotheringham found the top corner with a right-footed strike from the edge of the area to put the visitors back in front.

Anderson missed the chance to bring David Irons' side back level when he volleyed Stephen Murray's free-kick over the bar from close range after 70 minutes.

Kenny Deuchar then missed the target with a six-yard header, nine minutes from full-time, as the home side's promotion chances faded.
