Red Lichties continue to dream

Two quick-fire goals kept Arbroath's relegation play-off hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Forfar.

A loss for the Red Lichties would have meant automatic relegation and they were without suspended midfielder Kevin Nicholl.

Ross Chisholm and Stuart Malcolm fired early chances wide for Arbroath and Forfar respectively and Chris Duggan forced a save from Scott Morrison in the Arbroath goal.

The Smokies' player-manager Paul Sheerin opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Kenny Deuchar doubled the visitors' lead two minutes later, tucking away Robert Linn's pass after finding space in the penalty area.

Dale Hilson shot wide for the home side early in the second half, dashing their hopes of a comeback and Paul McManus had a good chance to put the game to bed but fired wide.

The Loons' Gavin Malin then missed a couple of chances as he failed to give Forfar late hope.
