Forest Green Rovers were Founder members of the Gloucestershire County League in 1968-69 season, where the enjoyed 7 years of football, before joining the Hellenic League Premier Division. They went on to become champions of this league in 1981, getting promoted to the Southern League Midland Division and also doing the double by winning the FA Vase also.
In 1989, the club changed it’s name to Stroud, however this was short lived and was changed back to Forest Green Rovers in 1992. In 1995, Rovers switched to play in the Southern Division, and won the league in the 96/97 season – in turn winning promotion to the Premier Division. Rovers didn’t stop there and went on to win the Southern League Premier Division in the debut season, earning promotion to the Conference league.
They have since come runners up in the FA Trophy in 1999 losing narrowly to Kingstonian 1-0 in the final. Also came runners up in 2001 again losing 1-0 but this time to Canvey Island.
