Forest Green Rovers boss Colin Addison praised in-form striker Kayode Odejayi after watching his side beat Northwich Victoria 1-0 on Saturday.
The three points keep Forest Green in the top ten and Addison admitted it had been imperative to hit back after last week's shock FA Trophy exit.
"The lad's got a lot of ability and his appreciation for the goal was first class," Addison said.
"He saw the situation, his application and delivery were good and it was a lovely weighted ball that had a message on it that said 'go on Alex, knock that in and win us the game'. And he did.
"Kay could have scored one, maybe even three with a little more composure, but he's one for the future.
"It's been the longest week of the season for me.
"It's just a pity we didn't make those chances and play with that composure last week because we would still be in the FA Trophy.
"It was a very good performance and a result we well deserved. It could have been more, but we missed some gilt-edged chances.
"But I was pleased with the attitude and application after last week. That's history now and I'm pleased we bounced back with a good performance and the right result."
