Fleetwood's David Ball has been shortlisted alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez for FIFA's goal of the year award.

Football's world governing body on Friday announced the 10-strong shortlist of the best goals scored between September 27, 2014 and September 23, 2015.

James Rodriguez's stunning volley at the World Cup scooped last year's award and could be succeeded by Fleetwood forward Ball.

The 25-year-old has been shortlisted for the FIFA Puskas Award for his exceptional goal in March's Sky Bet League One encounter against Preston.

Ball showed wonderful close control from on the edge of the box before clipping in an exceptional effort from 25 yards out.

It was not even shortlisted for goal of the season at last season's Football League Awards, but is now up against efforts from Messi, Tevez and Carli Lloyd, amongst others.

FIFA and selected Football Committee members chose the list, with fans now voting for the FIFA Puskas Award.

The winner will be revealed on the day of the Ballon d'Or on January 11, 2016 and voting will close during the show.

Last year Stephanie Roche came runner-up to Rodriguez for her exceptional volleyed goal for Irish women's club Peamount United.
