Mellon short up top

Fleetwood manager Micky Mellon has restricted options in attack ahead of the npower League Two visit of Plymouth.

Steven Gillespie is recovering well from a hamstring injury but the match is expected to come too soon. The former Colchester man will be assessed on Friday and Saturday.

Fellow striker Jon Parkin remains on the sidelines with a hamstring problem of his own, while Andy Mangan is a long-term victim alongside defender Anthony Barry (both knee).

David Ball led the line for the Cod Army in last Saturday's entertaining 2-2 draw at Exeter and Tom Barkhuizen will push for a place alongside the former Manchester City youngster having started on the bench at St James' Park.

Fleetwood lie fifth in the table having drawn their last three matches.

Plymouth goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin will continue between the sticks, having been handed his first League start for the club against Gillingham.

The former Watford man, who had been restricted to just Capital One Cup and FA Cup appearances, replaced Jake Cole against the leaders at Home Park and manager Carl Fletcher will give him a fair chance to prove himself in the coming weeks.

Argyle captain Darren Purse returned to the starting line-up after a toe injury and is expected to retain his place at the heart of the defence having come through the 90 minutes against the Gills.

Substitute Nick Chadwick pulled on a green shirt on Saturday as a second half substitute after not featuring against Dorchester and Burton and the former Everton striker grabbed an assist in the 2-2 draw.
