Fleetwood secure vital win over Scunthorpe

Ash Hunter and Bobby Grant gave Fleetwood hope in their survival battle on target in a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe.

The game was only given the go-ahead at 2pm after heavy rain at Highbury.

The hosts welcomed Jimmy Ryan back from injury and the midfielder was soon making his mark.

His curled ball from deep combined with a perfectly times run from Hunter - the striker picking his spot and lobbing Luke Daniels for Fleetwood's first goal in more than three hours of football.

The second was not long coming, Antoni Sarcevic sweeping a cross from the left, Grant's glancing header enough to double the advantage.

Sarcevic was lucky too see out the half, booked for his part in an altercation with Neal Bishop in which he looked to have clashed heads with the former Blackpool man.

The visitors were poor before the break but upped their game after the interval, taking advantage of an injury to Conor McLaughlin to make inroads down the Fleetwood right.

And eventually they got their reward, Stephen Jordan giving away a penalty with a push on Tom Hopper, Paddy Madden stepping up to convert from the spot.

Scunthorpe ended on the front foot but it was Fleetwood who came closest to adding to their tally.

Ryan nearly added a third late on, stinging the palms of Daniels as Fleetwood secured only their second win of 2016.
