Cod Army earn hard-fought point

Fleetwood survived an early onslaught to earn a 0-0 draw with York at Highbury.

York bossed the first half but failed to take advantage with Jason Walker, Matty Blair and Michael Potts all having good chances to hand the Minstermen an early advantage.

Town keeper Scott Davies did well to deny Blair, turning his blast from the edge of the box wide and minutes later Potts should have put York ahead, somehow missing the target from five yards.

The home side came into the game as the second half progressed and could have snatched the lead with ten minutes remaining. Alex Titchiner ran into a brick wall in the York box but Steven Gillespie was alert to the loose ball and his shot cannoned wide off the boots of City keeper Michael Ingham.

Gillespie combined well with fellow substitute Damien Johnson in the dying minutes to create one last opening for the home side, his weak header not enough to test Ingham.

And at the other end, York provided a late scare when Fleetwood struggled to cope with a Lanre Oyebanjo corner - Alan Goodall eventually scrambling the ball away.
