Cod Army frustrate leaders

Fleetwood closed the gap on third by a point as they held table-toppers Rochdale to a 0-0 draw at Highbury.

The home side created the best chances of an entertaining opening 45 minutes with Antoni Sarcevic twice threatening to break the deadlock while Iain Hume found the net only to be denied by an offside flag.

His best opportunity came from a sweeping Fleetwood move which released David Ball down the right. The striker pulled the ball back for Sarcevic who had time to fire but could not hit the target.

Keith Hill's side looked a danger on the break with Ian Henderson finding himself through on Chris Maxwell only for the Fleetwood goalkeeper to dive bravely at his feet.

They came closer after the break. Joe Rafferty's cross was flicked on by Henderson but Jamie Allen's overhead kick came back off the woodwork.

Fleetwood's Matty Blair forced a superb reaction save from Josh Lillis when he picked up on a loose ball and rifled a stinging shot from 18 yards out.

Substitute Jon Parkin tried to find the net with a backheel following a determined run from Blair, but there was no breaking the deadlock.
