Gonzalo Rodriguez struck in the second half to secure a 1-0 win for Fiorentina over Livorno and reinforce their hold on fourth spot in Italy's Serie A on Sunday.

Fiorentina's 11th win of the campaign leaves them on 36 points, level with third-placed Napoli ahead of their home game Monday against Sampdoria and five ahead of Inter before their trip later in the day to Lazio.

Relegation candidates Livorno travelled to Florence looking for their first away win over La Viola since 1937 but were stunned on 66 minutes when Rodriguez rose to send a header past 'keeper Francesco Bardi from a corner.

Livorno came agonisingly close to levelling at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, only to be denied twice when shots by Paulinho and Marco Benassi were blocked by 'keeper Neto.

Leaders Juventus host Roma, second at five points adrift, in the weekend's big match later Sunday. The remaining matches will be played Monday.
