Gilardino pleased with move

Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino has admitted that it was a relief to leave Serie A rivals AC Milan for the Florence club after his career came to standstill.

The Italy international made a name for himself during a three-year spell at Parma before making a big money move to the San Siro outfit and it was here where is form dipped.

Three relatively frustrating seasons saw him slip down the pecking order before the Viola knocked on his door in May 2008 and he hasn't looked back since.

He has scored ten goals so far this term and the 27-year-old has helped his side progress to the knock-out stage of the Champions League.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "For me, it is a pleasure to play here. I am happy with my choice. I am doing well.

"It's been a positive 2009 for me at Fiorentina, after a difficult year at Milan and I believe I have repaid their faith. However, now we must do even better."
