Michel Platini has filed an "urgent" appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) that his 90-day provisional ban be lifted.

The UEFA president is under suspension pending a FIFA ethics committee hearing over a £1.3million payment made to him by FIFA in 2011.

Platini, who wants to run for the FIFA presidency, had his first attempt to overturn the provisional ban rejected by FIFA's appeal committee and he remains banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity.

A CAS statement said: "In his appeal, Michel Platini has also requested that the current provisional suspension be stayed until a final decision of FIFA on the merits of this case.

"The CAS will determine the next steps of this procedure next week, after consultation with the parties concerned."
